Scarpa Furia Air — the climbing shoe that wants to fly

GEAR TEST • OFFICIAL SPECS × THE ROCK'N BLOC TAKE

The hook. The Furia Air makes no secret of its intentions: it wants you to feel every volume, every smear and every misplaced foot.

Test conditions

An editorial analysis based on SCARPA’s official product information and a typical modern bouldering session: volumes, smears, toe placements and dynamic moves. No timed tests or independently measured results are claimed; the fit still needs to be checked for each individual foot.

Official specifications

  • Stated weight: 150 g in size 40.
  • 3 mm Vibram XS Grip2 sole covering one third of the shoe’s length.
  • Perforated double-layer microfibre upper and an Alcantara insert beneath the big toe.
  • Revised FZR last, low-volume heel and Z-strap closure.
  • DTS, SRT and PAF tension systems; M50 rubber on the forefoot.

Strengths

The ultra-soft construction is aimed at smears, volumes and hooks where the foot needs to flex and provide plenty of feedback. The low stated weight suits repeated attempts.

Limitations

That sensitivity provides less support than a stiff shoe. Small holds can tire your feet more quickly, and the precise shape really needs to be tried on.

Rock’n Bloc verdict

We keep: the ultra-soft approach, XS Grip2 rubber and a profile built for modern bouldering. We leave: the idea of a universal or restful shoe. This is a tool for feeling the climb, not an easy mode.
